New York markets opened with a mixed trend this Thursday, showing flat performance as investors awaited a potential diplomatic agreement between the United States and Iran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran stepped up its warning to neighboring Gulf nations, stating that it will plunge the entire region into darkness should the United States carry out military actions against its power plans, official sources confirmed to AFP. A comment about recent earthquakes in Venezuela
Following the crisis of the earthquakes in La Guaira, Venezuela, the response was immediate. People stood up to help. However, disaster sociologists like Rebecca Solnit have shown that emergency solidarity has an expiration date. It typically lasts between three and six weeks. Why does it fade? Because when the mood dries and the cameras leave, the tragedy becomes invisible. Initial empathy decays through routine fatigue and the false assumption that the worst has passed. Support drops right when the hardest phase begins, actual reconstruction. To keep solidarity from dying out, we must transform emotion into structure. The only way to sustain it is by turning spontaneous goodwill into permanent community organization.
La Guaira doesn’t just need charity in times of shock. It needs lasting commitment where the noise fades away.
